One thing I remember growing up is that I loved my home. I would have rather that everyone come to MY house than me go to theirs. My home was a place that welcomed others. My Mom was really good making others feel at home at our house, so as a kid that’s what happened. Friends came to my house.
My desire now that I have a home of my own is that it is a welcoming place. Not one that is sterile and lifeless. One that is comfortable and happy. One that others feel when they come in that they can sit and enjoy and be at peace. To have a cup of coffee with us or stay for dinner or just hang out and talk.
I adore having people over and once the house is finished, I hope to be able to do that more. As a Christian, I believe the Lord wants us to be hospitable.
In 1 Peter 4:8-11, the Bible says:
Above all, keep fervent in your love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins. Be hospitable to one another without complaint. As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. Whoever speaks, let him speak, as it were, the utterances of God; whoever serves, let him do so as by the strength which God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.
